Race Record (through November): (39) 18-6-4-0
The hype has been there since the start of his career back in September of 2014. He broke his maiden by 10 in a time of 31.69. At Southland's 583 yard distance, it's the type of time that would win top grade against anyone on any day. Chasmo's Dutch proved it wasn't a fluke ten races later when he won his first AA race blowing away the solid veteran CBJ Kitkat in a time 31.68. Heads turned, people talked, and plenty took notice.
Yet, there were some growing pains. Five months after his breakout performance, he had only collected 3 wins. His slow break constantly left him in traffic trouble and when he did get a rare clean run he was running out of real estate. Dutch was finishing in the back three as much as the top three. Along the way there was a switch to the 660 yard Razorback course that didn't prove helpful. Dutch dropped in grade, got a win and a few races later was pulled from the active list in late April.
The two month break from competition was exactly what the son of Djays Octane needed. Since returning to the races in mid-June, Chasmo's Dutch has been by far the most impressive greyhound at Southland winning 14 of 24 and finishing in the money in 20 of 24 races.
His form since September has been especially brilliant. He's broken the sub 32.00 second barrier in half of his fourteen starts including times of 31.52, 31.57, and 31.65. He's placed first in 11 of 14, had a win streak of six and won the biggest open stakes event in the country when he nailed Flying Fired Up at the wire in the Darby Henry Male Sprint Championship. Chasmo's Dutch is living up to the hype as his form and ability has improved by leaps and bounds since Spring. His greatest improvement has been his break where he's now able to get into the races sooner, avoid trouble and leave himself with less to do in the back half of the race. He is one of the hottest dog in the country heading into December.
The Lester Raines kennel and Ken Lesperance have the pleasure and fortune of handling quite possibly the two best greyhounds at America's top racetrack and they'll take both Dutch and Flying Fired Up to Daytona and try for a 1-2 finish.
Owned and bred Judith Moore, Chasmo's Dutch is part of a once in a lifetime litter that includes current Southland AA performers Chasmo's Diesel (2014 F.O.S. Juvenile champ and multiple stakes finalist) and Chasmo's Octane (Jacksonville Juvenile and multiple stakes finalist). By Djays Octane out of a Lonesome Cry brood, the pedigree is as solid as it gets.
Chasmo's Dutch was ranked 5th in the year-end UGR poll but he may be the most talented greyhound invited to Daytona. He'll try to showcase that on 550 night.
